Fleet Manager

The Fleet Manager is responsible for the management and direction of the entire company owned equipment fleet as well as any rental equipment. The manager will supervise the shop team including preventive maintenance and repair, logistics management, fabrication, yard/warehouse operations and anything related to keeping our field crews running safely and efficiently. The manager needs to be a good leader with strong communication skills, earning the respect of shop personnel, site superintendents, construction crews, subcontractors, vendors and the company’s office team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that company vehicles and employees are compliant with DOT requirements including licensing, title, registration and inspections on equipment and vehicles that require them.
  • Dispatch equipment to jobsites as needed.
  • Secure any special hauling permits or escorts required for transportation of equipment.
  • Manage a team of mechanics.
  • Manage and dispatch a team of truck drivers including oversight of DOT record keeping.
  • Interview and hire shop staff and truck drivers.
  • Conduct performance reviews of employees under their supervision.
  • Identify opportunities to utilize tractor trailers and triaxles for additional revenue from outside sources.
  • Make recommendations regarding vehicle and equipment replacement.
  • Manage equipment rentals to provide crews with the equipment that they need when company equipment is unavailable and ensure that returns are made in a timely manner and in compliance with the rental agreements.
  • Procure parts and supplies as they relate to regular shop operations.
  • Track costs with the intent of finding waste and ways to cut costs.
  • Represent the company with high moral standards at all times.
  • Actively support the company’s commitment to safety including service on the safety committee.
  • Work closely with the Vice President in charge of excavation to determine the resource needs for various projects.
  • Supervise maintenance and repairs on a very diverse fleet of equipment from large heavy equipment to light pickup trucks to small 2 cycle engines.
  • Supervise and coordinate shop activities for high production and efficiency.
  • Maintain a neat and tidy shop environment.
  • Schedule and supervise field repairs.
  • 40-50 hour work week.

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in logistics a plus but not required.

• Minimum of a high school diploma.

• Minimum of 5 years of fleet management/dispatch experience, preferably in the heavy/civil construction industry.

• Strong time management skills.

• Strong communication skills including a written and verbal command of the English language.

• Strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

• Ability to prioritize multiple time sensitive requests.

• Proficiency in PC applications including Microsoft Word and Excel.

• WV.. inspection license is a plus but not required.

• Positive, “can do” attitude.

• Pass pre-employment and random drug screens.

• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record. Class A CDL preferred, but not necessary.
